Saw Stephen Fry in a restaurant once. He's very tall. Massive head on him as well.

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
He's got a point, if I believed in the god he believes in I'd be an atheist too.

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
Hermit mate you do. That is YHWH, the Jewish, Christian, Islamic God, of the OT. You know, the one your Jesus believed in and worshipped. :-)

O course, Israel was polytheist, before 600 BCE. YHWH was just a warrior god, for a single tribe in the southern kingdom. He never became the only god, until after the return from exile in Babylon. That was when the tales of Abe, Moses, Noah and Lot, first appeared. :-)

Marvellous answer.

I love listening to somebody who is able to articulate exactly what I think so much better than I can.

Well done Mr Fry Sir you old gayer.

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
Pretty much says what I've said for years.
Considering the fact that even 'god' can't control nature or what the planet does.
Always makes me wonder when something like the Tsunami happens then people pray the next day, if their god made everything then he made the Tsunami as well?

They have the old 'works in mysterious ways' get out clause for that one Def. They'll tell you he's testing them and that he's really a caring and loving god. And anyway, those who died have been chosen to join him in heaven, so he's done them a favour really.

They really are the most idiotic people.

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
Sxboy - Ha ha true.

I get that a lot when i go storm chasing in the States, Middle America is one of the most backward religious places I've been.
When we roll into town it's always the same *We'll pray for the town to be saved" Yep that'll work!
Then when the town gets flattened it's "We''ll pray for the victims"
Erm it's a bit late for that!

If you believe that God created the earth and all of the creatures on it, then it's the same God.

I love Fry, definitely in my top 5 gays.

The clip above is long but definitely worth a watch, it's him talking about the whole catholic movement.

This is a brilliant video.

A woman's house has been wiped out by a tornado.

"Do you thank the Lord?"

"Well I'm actually an atheist"

"Oh"

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
It took seeing my big brother to die from autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease when I was 5 and he was 9 to realise god, if he did exist, is an utter cunt.

Well said Mr.Fry.

Anybody who believes that in any of that god crap is desperate, retarded or brainwashed.

Re: Stephen Fry talking about God
I have to say that he has rather gone back up in my estimations.
I don't fully agree but do agree that such questions have to be asked.
Ineffable he/she/it may be but the suffering that is not of our own causing definitely needs raising. Suffer the children is not bloody enough. No concept of sin can justify the sight of a dying child, or loved one of any age, through the horrific diseases and conditions to which people, and indeed animals, are subject.
All the horrors that we have wrought pale into insignificance when compared to the pain and suffering that is suffered at the hands of 'creation'.
At the very least, if we were the product of a divine spark, they are careless of that which they created. Or they simply don't care at all...

Eddie B 9:58 - Ha! Nice one for posting that!

I remember the woman who found her dog praising 'The lord' obviously a different god from the one that let a tornado flatten Moore (The town it hit)
